The placebo-controlled, randomized study included 139 men and women, all diagnosed with knee problems*. The average age was 53 years.
The aim of the study was:
To compare a standard treatment for knee problems (Diclofenac) with a clinically proven and patented dietary supplement containing the patented Curcumin extract BCM95**.
The main parameters were stiffness, mobility, well-being, weight, stomach problems/gas formation and side effects. At the beginning of the study (baseline), both groups were similar.
The dose used was: 1500 mg BCM95 (3 capsules per day) or 100 mg of the standard treatment (diclofenac). The study lasted 28 days.
The gender distribution was similar between the groups.
Results: Both Diclofenac and the dietary supplement showed a clear effect after 14 and 28 days - two thirds of the participants experienced increased joint comfort - regardless of group. However, there was a big difference in the number of side effects in the two groups.
After 7 days, the Diclofenac group experienced stomach problems in the form of gas and gastritis, while the problems in the dietary supplement group had decreased compared to baseline. No one in the BCM95 group needed medication with H2 blockers (Zantack) while 28% needed it in the Diclofenac group.
In addition to three times fewer, shorter and milder side effects, 13% in the BCM95 group versus 38% in the diclofenac group, the BCM95 group significantly reduced weight.
