No two plant-based supplements are alike. This is because a plant extract contains hundreds of active compounds, and the interaction between these compounds determines its efficacy and safety. The challenge is that the composition varies depending on where the plant is grown, which part of the plant is used, and how it is extracted—information that is not listed on the ingredient label.
After working in the health industry for nearly 40 years, we know that there is only one way to determine whether a plant-based dietary supplement is truly effective and safe. We were in the prime of our careers, living in completely different parts of the world (and long before we met), when our respective health problems began. Maibritt, who has roots in Greenland, struggled with severe acne on her face and back, and Tom was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease—an intestinal disorder that was then considered incurable. Thanks to sound advice from wise people about diet, herbs, and lifestyle, we regained our health.
At the same time, we developed a passion for healthy food and well-researched dietary supplements. That was when the foundation for MedicineGarden was laid. Based in Malmö, we now collaborate with people and experts around the world, particularly in India, where Ayurvedic knowledge and many of our ingredients originate.

Every extract is unique. Therefore requires clinical studies.
A plant extract contains hundreds of different compounds, and it is the balance between them that determines its efficacy and safety. The content of active compounds is influenced by factors such as which part of the plant is used (root, leaf, or stem), the plant’s growing conditions, and the extraction solvent used (water, milk, ethanol, or methanol). The result is that all plant extracts are different, even if they come from the same part of the plant. The only way to determine whether a dietary supplement is effective and safe is therefore through published clinical studies conducted on the exact extract in the amount found in the capsule. That is why our dietary supplements contain only some of the world’s most studied extracts, in clinically established doses. Plus, they always feature a clean label. And we are the only ones who do this.

That is why we never launch a product without first inspecting the production facilities, visiting the farms, talking to the employees, and meeting with the researchers. Simply put, we ensure that the quality from seed to finished product is as good as promised and, just as importantly, that production is environmentally friendly and that the staff are treated well.
